Story
A Hebrew mantra drawn from the Book of Psalms, set to music as a prayer of trust, presence, breath, and contemplation.
This piece is a Hebrew mantra drawn from the Book of Psalms, set to music as a prayer of trust and presence.
The text is traditionally known as "Gam Ki Elech" - "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me."
The musical inspiration for this setting comes from Quarter to Africa, whose melody was reimagined here with an Indian classical sensibility, allowing the words to unfold slowly through breath, drone, and resonance.
This is offered not as performance, but as contemplation.
English lyrics:
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil for You are with me
Only goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Hebrew lyrics:
גם כי אלך בגיא צלמוות לא אירא רע כי אתה עמדי
אך טוב וחסד ירדפוני כל ימי חיי ושבתי בבית ה'
