Biography
YoYo Sitar
Modern Bard · Sitar · World Music
A modern bard with a sitar in his hands, YoYo Sitar (Yoav Fekete) has spent more than two decades following music across cultures - from the depth of Indian raga to the modal world of Turkish makam, and from West African Jali traditions to contemporary stages where improvisation meets rhythm and modern sound.
He studied Indian classical music under Rudra Veena master Dudu Elkabir of the Dagar Gharana lineage, absorbing the breath and depth of the dhrupad tradition. Years performing in a Turkish Sufi orchestra, together with deep immersion in West African kora and goni traditions, expanded his musical language beyond any single tradition.
Rather than combining styles on the surface, YoYo Sitar allows different traditions to move naturally inside the same melodic space. His music moves between stillness and rhythm, intimacy and groove.
A central thread in his work explores the meeting point between Indian raga and West African string traditions — a dialogue sometimes referred to as Afro-Raga.
On stage he can hold a room with a single note - and then slowly lift the energy without losing depth. His performances move fluidly between intimate listening experiences and festival stages.
His debut EP, scheduled for release in 2026, continues this path in motion - where raga meets African melody and classical ideas open into rock, trap, and subtle electronics.
